Who owns which car brands?

Many familiar names belong to a handful of large groups. Here are the biggest, with the brands they own:

Parent companyBrands
StellantisAbarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, Vauxhall
Volkswagen GroupAudi, Bentley, Cupra, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda, Volkswagen
General MotorsBuick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC
Hyundai Motor GroupGenesis, Hyundai, Kia
BMW GroupBMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce
GeelyGeely, Lotus (majority), Polestar, Volvo (majority), Smart (joint venture)
ToyotaLexus, Toyota
Ford Motor CompanyFord, Lincoln
Renault GroupAlpine, Dacia, Renault
Tata MotorsJaguar, Land Rover (as JLR)
Mercedes-Benz GroupMaybach, Mercedes-Benz, Smart (joint venture)
HondaAcura, Honda
NissanInfiniti, Nissan

Brands in the same group often share engines, platforms and parts. That can make some repairs and parts cheaper and easier to find, especially for popular models.

Does the brand affect repair costs?

Yes, often a lot. Luxury and European brands tend to cost more to repair, because their parts are more expensive and their labor times are longer. Mainstream Japanese, Korean and American brands usually cost less. The same repair can easily cost twice as much on a luxury car as on an economy car. Our estimator adjusts for vehicle type so you can see the difference.
